The Literacy Committee plans and executes literacy projects that promote the love of reading and learning.
Chair: Dr. Miriam Vázquez
Projects:
  • Parents as Partners: Kindergarten Reading-Read a book to kindergarten students, provide a copy of the book to each student to encourage family reading time and help with a service project related to the book.
  • College Scholarships-College scholarships to seniors that demonstrate service above self in their school and/or community.
  • StoryWalk®-The purpose of a StoryWalk is to encourage families in our community to spend time together, walking and reading, thus promoting healthy habits and good literacy habits. A StoryWalk takes an illustrated children’s book and disassembles it, displaying each page sequentially along a walking path.
  • Little Library-A Little Library is a “take a book, share a book” free book exchange.
  • Oratorical Contest-Sponsor and provide support to high school juniors interested in participating in the Oratorical contest. This contest provides an opportunity for juniors to earn college scholarships to area colleges.
